Cirque du Soleil Quidam comes to Honolulu

Posted on September 29, 2012

You never know who you’ll meet in Waikiki. With so many festivals and events taking place each week, there’s a good chance you’ll meet someone awesome. The person standing next to you wearing slippers and a t-shirt could be a celebrity, professional hula dancer, or bona fide Cirque du Soleil artist!

Last week, I met Norihisa”Nori” Taguchi and Jean-Philippe “JP” Viens, two performers from Cirque du Soleil Quidam, who will be stationed in Honolulu for the next few weeks while they perform at the Blaisdell Arena.

They spend most of the year traveling with the show, and seemed really excited about coming to Oahu.

Me: What are you looking forward to in Hawaii if you have downtime?

Nori: Everything. I’m going to three other islands after this. Big Island, Maui and Kauai.

JP: I’ll enjoy some downtime on Kauai. I’m a huge fan of hiking and backpacking and will try to get certified in scuba diving. I love the outdoors. You know, paddle boarding, rafting. Who would want to stay inside in a destination like this?

Me: I hope you get into the water soon! Let’s talk about Quidam for a second. Cirque du Soleil always has such great and visual story lines. You see beautiful people doing extreme things, and the music is pretty cool too. What else should people know?

JP: Well, from a guy’s point of view, if you take a girl to Cirque du Soleil, especially Quidam, you score major points!

Me: Date night, love it! Guys out there, take note.

My advice, be sure to catch Nori and JP in Cirque du Soleil Quidam while you can. The show has been enjoyed by more than 10 million people around the world, and adds a new and exciting entertainment option for visitors and residents of Honolulu.

Quidam runs from October 4-14, 2012 at the Blaisdell Arena.
